Dianne Caroline Aranguibel

While attending Clemson University, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. My host-family placement meant speaking Spanish in every setting and learning through real, day-to-day activities and responsibilities. I built a close bond with my host family and found Spanish culture deeply beautiful in how it's grounded in family, hospitality, and joy in simple moments. I fell in love with a way of living that prioritizes family and simple, meaningful moments, and I carry that perspective into how I approach health communication and community work.

While in Spain, I completed an internship with AGADEA Alzheimer, working with participants daily on cognitive stimulation and mobility. I helped facilitate memory and orientation exercises, supported fine-motor and attention activities, and guided low-impact physical routines to help maintain strength, balance, and independence. I also practiced clear, compassionate communication with participants and families, and observed person-centered dementia care in action, which enables me to bring insights to my work with older adults and caregivers in the future.
